Bitcoin (BTC) is leading the cryptocurrency markets lower and the matter is being exacerbated by Silvergate Banks' ongoing issues. This week the cryptocurrency-focused bank said that it needed additional time to file its annual 10-K report and warned that it may not be able to operate for another 12 months. Reacting to this news, several cryptocurrency companies announced that they were reducing or canceling their partnerships with Silvergate Bank. The uncertainty regarding the future of the bank and its overall impact on the cryptocurrency sector may have caused a knee-jerk reaction. However, if the contagion does not spread, the downside …

Total crypto market cap takes a hit amid Silvergate Bank crisis
Cryptocurrency markets experienced a relatively calm month in February as the total market capitalization gained 4% in the period. However, the fear of regulatory pressure appears to be having an impact on volatility in March. Bulls will undoubtedly miss the technical pattern that has been guiding the total crypto market capitalization upwards for the past 48 days. Unfortunately, not all trends last forever, and the 6.3% price correction on March 2 was enough to break below the ascending channel support level. As displayed above, the ascending channel initiated in mid-January saw its $1.025 trillion market cap floor ruptured after Silvergate …

Binance USD market cap falls below $10B amid rising regulatory concerns
Binance USD (BUSD) market cap has fallen below $10 billion for the first time in almost two years amid a United States regulatory crackdown on its token issuer and a planned delisting from a major crypto exchange. BUSD’s marketcap has been on a steep downward trajectory since its all-time high (ATH) market cap of $23.49 billion on Nov. 15, just a few days after the shock collapse of FTX. As of today, the stablecoin’s marketcap has fallen to $9.66 billion — levels not seen since Jun. 29, 2021. Most recently, BUSD has been the subject of a potential lawsuit against …

Celo president Rene Reinsberg explains why the protocol is optimizing for mobile
On Episode 10 of Cointelegraph’s Hashing It Out podcast, Celo president Rene Reinsberg joins Elisha Owusu Akyaw (GhCryptoGuy) to discuss the regenerative finance (ReFi) movement, which focuses on the building blocks of decentralized finance (DeFi) and the principles of regenerative economics. Reinsberg also explains how Celo intends to stay relevant in the multichain world of layer-1 blockchains and layer-2 networks. The blockchain world is getting crowded, with multiple layer-1 blockchains launching and layer-2 networks becoming more popular. Reinsberg said the layer-1 Celo blockchain is not worried about the increase in options for users — instead, it sees it as an …

Polygon launches decentralized ID product powered by ZK proofs
Polygon, a layer-2 scaling protocol for Ethereum has launched a zero-knowledge decentralized identity solution, Polygon ID to the public nearly a year after announcing its development. The service uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZK proofs) that use cryptographic techniques to allow users to verify their identity online without having their sensitive information passed, or potentially stored with a third party. The public release of Polygon ID by Polygon Labs on Mar. 1 comes almost 12 months after it was officially launched in a closed-source environment in late March 2022, which the Polygon team says was built to “solve the issue of digital …

Price analysis 3/1: BTC, ETH, BNB, XRP, ADA, DOGE, MATIC, SOL, DOT, LTC
Bitcoin (BTC) was marginally positive in February even though the S&P 500 index (SPX) fell by 2.61%. On the first day of March, Bitcoin has started on a positive note while the United States equities markets are struggling. This shows that Bitcoin is trying to decouple from the U.S. equities markets. A positive sign is that retail traders seem to have made the most of the crypto bear market. Instead of panicking and selling their holdings, traders have purchased at lower levels. Glassnode data shows that wallets holding at least one Bitcoin have consistently risen and are nearing the 1 …

Ethereum price resistance at $1,750 could reflect traders’ anxiety over the Shanghai upgrade
The price of Ether (ETH) declined 9.8% between Feb. 19 and Feb. 25 after the price resistance at $1,725 proved stronger than expected. Still, the correction was insufficient to break the 6-week-long ascending channel and did not cause Ether derivatives metrics to turn bearish. Ether's price resilience can be partially explained by the operational failure of some of its smart contract blockchain competitors. For instance, Solana (SOL) faced a 20-hour-long outage on Feb. 25, which was only resolved after a network upgrade coordinated by validators. The network restart also involved purging some of the latest slots, although Solana developers said …

Stacks (STX) surges as Bitcoin NFT hype grows, but its blockchain activity raises concern
Stacks is one of the first blockchains to enable a way for minting Bitcoin (BTC) Ordinals, which puts it in an excellent position to benefit from the hype. However, Ordinals have invoked an issue from the past where Bitcoin maximalist ideologies will be tested if the NFTs lead to network congestion. On top of that, Stacks has yet to deliver all the functionalities required to support an NFT trading ecosystem and it faces competition from projects in other blockchain ecosystems. The fundamental and technical analysis of the project suggests that the price surge might have reached overbought conditions and may …

Here’s why STX, CFX, SSV, AGIX and GRT are the top performing assets in February
The month of February was filled with investors’ hope that an earlier-than-expected Federal Reserve policy pivot would occur, but this sentiment faded as the inflation and employment data came in hotter than expected. While the start of the month was bullish for the crypto market, Bitcoin (BTC) retraced 60% of the move from February’s low at around $21,500 to the peak of $25,250. Nevertheless, some narrative-driven rallies still caused significant price growth in some altcoins. The leading narratives were Bitcoin NFTs, liquidity staking derivatives (LSDs) on Ethereum and Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects. Let’s review the top performing coins of the …
