Crypto exchange FTX.US to give away Bitcoin as part of Super Bowl ad
Cryptocurrency exchange FTX.US will be giving away free Bitcoin as part of its upcoming advertising campaign at the Feb. 13 Super Bowl LVI. However, the amount of Bitcoin given away has yet to be determined because it will depend on what time the ad runs on the East Coast. For example, if the ad runs at 8:50 PM, the Bahamian-based exchange will give away 8.50 BTC ($374,000 at current prices). Missouri mayor suggests giving residents up to $1K in Bitcoin
The mayor of Cool Valley, Missouri said he was exploring giving more than $1 million in Bitcoin (BTC) to the city’s 1,500 residents. In a Thursday interview with St. Louis news outlet KSDK, Mayor Jayson Stewart said he wanted to see “every single household in my city receive some level of Bitcoin.” Stewart said the funds would likely come from some “very supportive donors” but did not rule out using money from the government’s pandemic relief response to launch the venture. Broke MIT students miss 13,000% gain on free BTC after selling for food and shoes
In October 2014, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology launched the MIT Bitcoin Project, an initiative that sought to give away $500,000 worth of Bitcoin (BTC) to its undergraduate students. Students were able to claim $100 worth of BTC in exchange for filling out a survey, equating to roughly 0.3 BTC at the time. Elon Musk impersonators make bank as crypto scammers’ profits surge
The United States Federal Trade Commission has found that crypto scammers’ profits spiked in the last two months, noting a surge in fraudulent impersonators posing as prominent figures associated with digital assets, such as Elon Musk. The findings report that cryptocurrency investment scams rose sharply in October 2020 as the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns deepened, with nearly 7,000 people reporting losses of more than $80 million to digital asset scams over the six months that followed. 95% of winners in China’s CBDC lottery spent digital yuan prizes
The vast majority of China’s $1.5 million digital yuan lottery winners have received and spent their “red envelopes” of digital yuan. As of Sunday, a total of 47,573 out of 50,000 lottery winners in China have received their prizes, Shenzhen authorities officially announced. Shenzhen to hand out 10 million digital yuan in currency giveaway
The major Chinese city of Shenzhen is launching a pilot program to promote the digital yuan with a public giveaway. In collaboration with the country's central bank, Shenzhen is planning to distribute a total of 10 million digital yuan ($1.5 million) — China’s central bank digital currency, local news agency Sina Finance reports Oct. 9.
