The ethics of the metaverse: Privacy, ownership and control
The metaverse, a virtual environment that simulates reality, offers complex moral dilemmas regarding privacy, ownership and control. These consist of: Privacy: Who has access to and how is personal information used within the metaverse? Ownership: Who owns the digital assets and real estate in the metaverse, and what rights do they have over it? Control: Who oversee activities in the metaverse, and what rules and regulations will be implemented to guarantee fair use and equal treatment for all participants? These are crucial issues to think about as the metaverse expands and is utilized more frequently, and they will probably have …

AkuDreams dev team locks up $33M due to smart contract bug
The highly anticipated nonfungible token (NFT) project Akutars was marred by both an exploit and a bug on the weekend, causing over 11,500 Ether (ETH), worth nearly $33 million, to be locked forever within a smart contract, inaccessible even to the development team. The exploit, however, was conducted by someone trying to show a vulnerability in the project and not steal funds via a hack. The project went live on Friday with a Dutch Auction, a type of auction where the price lowers until it receives a bid, with the first bid winning the sale as long as the price …

Hacker bungles DeFi exploit: Leaves stolen $1M in contract set to self destruct
In a rare comedic bungle among decentralized finance (DeFi) exploits, an attacker has fumbled their heist at the finish line leaving behind over $1 million in stolen crypto. Just after 8:00 am UTC on Thursday, blockchain security and analytics firm BlockSec shared it had detected an attack on a little-known DeFi lending protocol called Zeed, which styles itself a “decentralized financial integrated ecosystem.” The attacker exploited a vulnerability in the way the protocol distributes rewards, allowing them to mint extra tokens, which were then sold, crashing the price to zero, but netting just over $1 million for the exploiter. Blockchain …

Stacks (STX) price rallies 195% after revealing plans to bring DeFi to Bitcoin
Ethereum (ETH) is currently the leader when it comes to smart contract capabilities and the sheer number of projects operating on its network, but the push to build products on Bitcoin (BTC) is gaining traction with advocates like Square CEO Jack Dorsey spearheading the effort to bring decentralized finance (DeFi) to the Bitcoin network. One project aiming to combine the features of DeFi with the security of the Bitcoin network is Stacks (STX), a layer-one blockchain protocol designed to bring smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) to the Bitcoin network. Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that since …

Wen? Now! BadgerDAO’s synthetic rebasing Bitcoin, DIGG, goes live
After weeks of anticipation and a closely-watched series of preparatory steps, BadgerDAO’s synthetic rebasing Bitcoin, DIGG, is now live and claimable for qualified addresses on Ethereum mainnet. The release will be eagerly welcomed by a perhaps-overzealous community, one which has been lighting up Twitter with “wen DIGG” for weeks. For all the memes and excitement, however, there’s some serious technical heft behind both the distribution and the maintenance of the newest Bitcoin asset on Ethereum. Ultimately, however, now that DIGG is in the wild market forces are what will determine the long-term success of the synthetic Bitcoin asset — success …
